NEW: David Bowie live in Sydney 1983 - 2CD - November 19

David Bowie
RAS Showgrounds
Sydney, Australia
November 19, 1983

Description: Received this many years in a tape trade and was asked to post so here it is....probably low gen, very little tape hiss if any.  Not the best quality, a bit overmodulated in places, really a party tape.  Sounds like it was recorded close with actives around the microphone.  Overall I would say listenable but not the first one you'll throw on around your fellow Bowiephiles.  Funny how the apparent well is pretty dry from the Australian leg of the 1983 tour.  I was looking through the Concert Tapes book and nothing from Perth has ever surfaced for 1983 or Adelaide.  Just surprised for such a mammoth tour.  This recording is complete, there are several small interruptions between songs which I have tightened up, the full encore break is included.  The Helden site lists a recording of far lesser quality so I think this will be an upgrade for most who already have this recording due to its generation if nothing else.  Enjoy!  From the Blackout archives.

NEW: David Bowie live in Buffalo 1983 - 2CD - September 5

David Bowie - Buffalo 83

Date: 1983-09-05
Venue: Buffalo Memorial Auditorium
City: Buffalo
State: New York
Country: USA

Vg+ sound after some EQ was done (bass lifted, treble lifted a bit).
Other measures:
- speed was too high -> reduction by 2,35 % (tape length increased from 106,5 to 109 min)
- sound levels adjusted between left and right channel
- audience noise between tracks reduced
- reverb reduced as much as possible

Other remarks:
- There is some distortion at higher volumes but all in all not too discommoding
- close to the taper (or even the taper himself?) a guy is yelling loudly from time to time, mostly at    the start of the songs which was not possible to remove or reduce without changing the flow of the songs. So I left it in.
- Rebel Rebel cut's in

With all the activity at MWP, Isolar2's bootleg project searching for low gen recordings and Blackout's stirling work uploading his cassette stash.
I thought I'd better get off my butt and join the party. As many of you know I was collecting Bowie boots from the late 70's until 1984,
and with over 80 Serious Moonlight shows in my hoard all collected within six months of the tour there must be some low gen gems in there.

Well here we go then, a fantastic audience recording from the Hammersmith Odeon charity concert, memorable for several reasons,
firstly I was there, secondly the tickets were £50 (an absolute fortune back then, I'd just seen all three Wembley shows for £30)
and lastly the show was on the wednesday (if I remember correctly) and I picked up a tape at the weekend so this must be a low gen copy I think.
Apart from a tiny bit of hiss removal and a slice and dice to break it into 21 tracks this is pretty much as the original tape. The natural tape break
is after Station to Station, so I faded it in and out here to neaten things up.

As I mentioned earlier I have over 80 very old recordings of this tour so if anyone is looking for a possible upgrade of any show just let me know
and we'll see what we can do.

Damage to left channel on TVC 15 @ 3:20 - repaired from right channel.

Info: The first try-out concert before the real start of the Serious Moonlight Tour.

In 1983 Bowie returned to the stage after an almost 5 years break, this time not as a cult artist,
but as a mainstream artist. Having just released the million-seller "Let's Dance" combined with
the fact that Bowie had not toured for so long guaranteed sell-out concerts almost everywhere
around the globe.

Before the start of the Serious Moonlight Tour, Bowie and his band decided to do 2 try-out concerts,
this is the first one. Basically, these try-outs were longer than the normal tour concerts. This
concert includes some rare performances of songs like "Wild is the Wind", "Joe the Lion" and "I Can't
Explain".

This recording is sourced from master cassettes and was carefully re-mastered and edited in order to
get the best sound. The original recording suffered from microphone problems, but you'll be suprised
by the good sound quality of this re-master.

I like to thank 100% British for allowing me to share this rare recording with you.

Please stay tuned on this website for more 100% British / Bowie concert news (soon).

As always, enjoy it!

I bought this tape in my hometown from a female Bowie fan ( I got most of my tapes

from her. Many thanks to Martina Stegemann !!! )

This tape was used to pruduce the vinyl bootleg "Live In Copenhagen 1978".

( which was pressed in mono !!! )

What a shame that the quality went bad along the last 4 songs.

Otherwise it´s a beautiful recording.

A little bit overridden here and there, but.........great !!!  ( and rare )

NEW: David Bowie live in Cologne 1978 - 2CD - May 19

David Bowie - Cologne 78

Date: 1978-05-19
Venue: Kölner Sporthalle
City: Cologne
Country: Germany

Remaster details:

- Downsample the 2 x 96/24 files to 48/24
- Remove gaps
- Bass lowered a bit, treble lifted a bit
- Some dehissing
- audience noise reduced between songs
- show announcer added at start of concert from different source tape
- Downsample the 48/24 file to 44.1/16
- Special treatment for section starting in middle part of Alabama Song until end of Station To Station (this section has a
  duller sound):
Treble lifted substantially, middle frequencies reduced

Total running time: Disc 1 Running time 52:07 / Disc 2 Running Time 59:22
(as we learn from the announcer before the start of the show the concert was performed in two parts with a break of approx. 15 min. in the middle).

Especially before the start of the 2nd half there is a lot of guys shouting to others to sit down, what they obviously refuse to do. So they get insulted with at that time very fashionable cusswords. The whole thing is on one side a bit annoying and on the other side (if you understand German) quite funny as in the 70's it was an unwritten law (at least in Germany) to sit down on the floor during the whole show and listen to the music devotionally. That changed radically one or two years later caused by the Punk movement which penetrated also through "normal" rock events.

The show itself is nice even if it seems to be quite a routine for David as he is not talking anything between songs with the exception of the band introduction. The sound is nearly excellent (except for the section from Alabama Song and Station To Station) and I would estimate it slightly better than the well known version by by jamesthecat upped to MWP in 2009.

Notes :

I got this in a trade ages ago, the guy who sent it to me didn't tell its generation (but I wonder if he even knew it too, so...).
As every date of the Us Tour I find it a great show, and the very special of it is of course 'Rock'n roll Suicide', which brings the atmosphere to a climax...
A real pity he didn't play it on the entire tour !
The beginning of 'Fame' is missing, due to tape flip and all the encores are missing : I think the guy maybe only just had with him a 90mn tape to record the show ?

NEW: David Bowie live in Copenhagen 1976 - 2CD - April 30

David Bowie
Falkoner Teatret
Copenhagen, Denmark
April 30, 1976

Description: Nice sounding audience tape from the second show in Copenhagen.  Got this one in a tape trade, thank you JH many many years ago.  It has always sounded good to me, one of the better ones from '76.  I think both Copenhagen shows make a nice package.  Bowie says "Good evening Copenhagen" as an identifier in the band intros.  Although Bowie is speaking slowly, the speed of the tape is OK!  Seems like there may have been quite a bit of booze flowing on this tour.  Rebel Rebel has a great, long extended intro on this recording.  Hope you all like it.  This is a raw, untouched transfer right from the original cassette.

Setlist:
1. Station To Station
2. Suffragette City

David Bowie

Description: Nice sounding audience tape from the 1976 tour.  You can't say that about many '76 shows, but to my ears this is a good one.
Standard setlist for the '76 tour, which remained virtually the same throughout.
The recording itself sounds a shade overmodulated in places, this is the source tape talking, not my transfer.
I think you will really enjoy this one, as I have over the years!

Small gap in Station To Station (1:30-1:34).  Fixed by patch from the Noggin version (Maxell UD90 tape, then lineage as above).  Clean.

Tape flip between Queen Bitch and Life On Mars?  One is the same as the first gap, see below.
Two small jumps at the start of Life On Mars? (at 1.3 and 5.5 seconds, removed with fades).
Join (on source tape) in crowd noise just before start of TVC 15 - different timbre from this point onwards.  Volume reprofiling to these tracks as well.

NEW: David Bowie live in Philadelphia 1976 - 2CD - March 16

David Bowie
Spectrum
Philadelphia, PA
March 16, 1976

Source: Audience

Description: In following up the GK upload from a bit ago, here is the version of March 16, 1976 from the Blackout archives.  I received a copy of this years ago on cassette when it first began circulating, and this particular copy was billed as low gen, but I've no real way to confirm.  When I went back to my version of this, I noticed that the banter in TVC-15 was really a bit too slow, so I went back and re-ran it and found with the speed correction noted above, everything seemed just right.
As for the show itself, those who've heard it know it is one of the best of the Station tour, with the banter before Sister Midnight where Bowie references coming back to the Tower Theatre later in the year, and the intro to TVC-15 which explains the concept behind the song.  Bowie also delivers (the Iggy Tour, although he does not say this...) a really nice band intro, longer than usual where he mentions George Murray's new 'Christian Dior' jacket.  Classic!!  In any event, enjoy this speed corrected version, which I think makes a big improvement.  One other note - for years I saw that this show was also billed as March 15th on CDR trade lists, so I am not positive this is from the 16th or the 15th.  However, when I did trade for the 15th, it was definitely the same show as this one (ie there are not 2 different shows that circulate, just the one from the 2 nights in Philly). From the Blackout archives.

1. Station To Station
2. Suffragette City
The L.A. songs are recorded off the vinyl with the same title, and the excellent sound quality is maintained. The songs marked * are from the Rotterdam show, and for the first time is PANIC IN DETROIT from that show available on disc. The Rotterdam songs are sound-board recordings just like the previously available songs from the same concert. The only unreleased song from that show now is QUEEN BITCH. Very nice "filler bits"! The CD is said to be Japanese, but it is Italian. Anyway, a disc I warmly recommend! -BASSMAN
