Back to the closet archives and my master audience tapes, we find David Bowie touring behind "Serious Moonlight" and putting on a high energy show in Austin, Texas.
I taped 2 back to back nights during this tour, this show and Dallas on August 19th.  I don't remember a lot about these shows 23 years later except that I enjoyed them at the time.  It was a hits driven show for the most part which the big arena crowds loved, Stevie Ray Vaughan had dropped out before the tour even started and by this point Earl Slick had total command of being the lead guitarist.

I can't recall anything about the taping location but quality is quite good in my opinion with no cuts or splices, after taping the night before I knew the pacing of this show and were the tape flips should take place.

This is the first time this has been transferred to CD directly from the master tapes and I offer it here for any and all to enjoy.

Baton Rouge is an excellent sounding audience recording of the entire show.
It is sharp and detailed whose only real flaw are the multiple cuts between most of the songs on the first disc.
It is so clean that it could probably pass for a soundboard recording except that the faint audience cheers by the recorder give it way as an audience.

Nevertheless I remastered the tape, and I hope that your are

satisfied like me with the result.

Title: To Have And Not Have
Artist Name: David Bowie
Venue: Various Live & Studio
Date: Various
Artwork: Included

01: Five Years (Unreleased Studio Version 1972)
02: Waiting For The Man (New York '76)
03: "Heroes" (Earls Court, London 1978)
04: What In The World (Earls Court, London 1978)
05: Space Oddity (Marquee Club, London 1973)

08: Miss Perculiar (Unused Ryko Bonus Track)
09: Life On Mars? (Unreleased Peter Noone Acetate)
10: Untitled (From Black Tie White Noise Sessions)

Track 2 was ommited from the original FM broadcast as there is a minor tape glitch on this track at around 0:29 but despite this it's an amazing version.
Tracks 3 & 4 were originally short-listed for use on the Trident/NMC compilation "RarestOneBowie" but not used.
Track 6 is performed by The Astronettes. It's an alternate mix to the finished version that appeared on "People From Bad Homes". It has some nice Bowie bits, especially around 3:01 when Bowie can be heard telling the band what parts to sing.
Tracks 7 & 8 were mastered in the early 90'for EMI/Ryko's re-issues but were rejected.

16. Boys Keep Swinging (Saturday Night Live, 15-12-1979)
17. Ashes To Ashes (Johnny Carson Show, 05-09-1980)
18. TVC15 (Saturday Night Live, 15-12-1979)

One of the best compilation discs ever! The most interesting song on this CD is LOVER TO THE DAWN, which is a blue-print for CYGNET COMMITTEE! It is recorded off an acetate disc so it crackles a lot, and the sound quality is so-so. It sounds like it could have been a part of the Beckenham Art's Lab 1968 tape? Most of the other songs are previously available, but here they are in superior sound quality. The other odd songs are: AMSTERDAM, which is the same version as on the LP USED UP AND EMPTY (1983), but recorded at the correct speed. STARMAN is mostly instrumental, only the chorus has lyrics. THE JEAN GENIE is the official version but in a very strange mix. Who CAN I BE NOW has a few extra seconds in the intro compared to other bootleg releases. The four last songs are from Saturday Night Live 15.12.79, except for ASHES TO ASHES which comes from Tonight TV Show 05.09.80. The only mistake on the cover is that TVC 15 is called SPACE ODDITY. A TRUE MUST!

RE-UP: David Bowie "Life Is A Circus" - 1CD - 1969 demo tape

Perhaps one of the most important historical documents in the career of David Bowie. In 1969, Bowie and fellow Feathers colleague, John "Hutch" Hutchinson, recorded at least ten tracks, on a tape recorder, to send to various record labels. This demo tape eventually landed Bowie a deal with Mercury and launched his career.  As one can imagine, a recording made 35 years ago is not of pristine quality, but this version offers a better listening experience than many of the other discs floating around with this material.

RE-UP: David Bowie "Fresh From Divorce" - 1CD - outtakes & live 1979-1980

DAVID BOWIE - FRESH FROM DIVORCE
(Godfather Records 580)

DATE/VENUE:
Various outtakes and performances from 1979 and 1980

QUALITY:
Excellent quality....for the most

COMMENTS:
This material has been released on several other labels in the past,
but "Godfather" EQ'd it. I think they did it quite well, allthough I am NOT a fan of this label.
Some comments about this bootleg at DIME (an incomplete version was torrented by someone there) said that this was a "great upgrade". You'll be the judge.
But this is my rip - and not the torrent from DIME. So this is the complete version

COMMENTS #2:
Some of the songs here I find even more enjoyable than the official record....for instance "Laser" (Scream Like A Baby).....allthough his official release is a milestone without any doubt
His performance at the Tonight show in 1980 is also absolutely terrific; the performances he gave of "Ashes To Ashes" and "Life On Mars" are still my favourite versions of those 2 songs. Bowie was dressed up like James Dean for the occasion.
That Tonight show performance is among my favourite Bowie moments ever. But maybe it's just me.
(also worth noting that GE Smith is playing the guitar......the ever famous Dylan guitarist of 1988 to 1990)

COMMENTS #3:
This material is a serious must have for Bowie appreciators.....no matter which EQ work you prefer of it.

Comments taken from bassman's site: "A very nice compilation disc. The majority of the songs are from the Marquee Club, in excellent stereo sound quality! All of the other songs are studio versions, except for MY DEATH. REBEL REBEL and GOLDEN YEARS are so called "dry mixes" made for Top Of The Pops. DODO is a recording with Bowie and Lulu on vocals. The three YOUNG AMERICANS songs are alternative studio takes. As you can see above, lots of different colour variations were released. A nice and interesting disc!"

This was my very first silver BowieBoot I bought. (and I bought only a few afterwards, but not because I did not like this one a lot  Wink ) For your enjoyment served as an "xAct cd-paranoid"-rip.

In 1997 to commemorate 25 years of Ziggy Stardust, longtime fan John Harrison created two semi-professional videos from hundreds of hours of video and thousands of photo stills of Ziggy Stardust.  They aren't for sale - they are limited edition distributed only amongst friends and even sent to David Bowie himself.

Part 1: 25 Years of Ziggy Stardust: The Birth of A Monster
To commemorate 25 Years of Ziggy Stardust: Unreleased Archive footage and rare stills. David Bowie is Ziggy Stardust.  25 years on ... Ziggy was an Inspiration to every gender.  A hero whose immaculate web formed a theatrical mystique of glamour and infinite grace.  His appeal was universal.   The future was not an illusion.  It was happening now.  A creative character who still remains a burning spirit within ourselves.  Here is the story ....

RE-UP: David Bowie & Iggy Pop live in Seattle 1977 - 1CD - April 9

Iggy Pop & David Bowie
Paramount Theater,Seattle
WA USA
9 April 77
Very good quality stereo audience recording

36 minutes 24 seconds

01 Intro
02 Raw Power
03 1969 / No Fun / 96 Tears
04 Gimme Danger
05 Sister Midnight
06 Search and Destroy
07 I Wanna Be Your Dog
08 China Girl

This is a very good quality stereo audience recording from Iggy's early 1977 tour with Bowie,
from a tape of the 'Iggy and Ziggy' LP...I remember reading the full show is 'out there' years
ago. Can someone share that, please?

Personally I would rate this as the highest audio quality after the Chicago FM recordings,
judging by other recordings I have heard from this tour, it is not surprising the recording
made it to bootleg.

Notes:
JEMS master recording. This is a good to very good sounding recording. This is the first time Iggy had been back in Detroit live since his days in The Stoogies. The audience is all raucous and rowdy this night in anticipation of Iggy's stage antics. This was the first of a two night stand Iggy played at the Masonic Temple with the 2nd night being on the 27th and captures him touring in support of his solo debut The Idiot. The show features a cross section of Stoogies classics along with solo material.

Label: CD-R
Audio Source: audience recording.
Number of Discs: 1
Artwork: included
Total running time: 77:59

Info: Recorded at City Hall, Newcastle on 2nd March 1977 - second night on the tour. Fairly hissy, distorted recording, not one of the better Ig/Zigs.

At the end is an interview with Ig - I'm guessing local radio. The interviewer alludes to "The Idiot" as being a title that "reeks of Dostoyevsky" - strangely, Iggy doesn't seem to have thought the same to that point. Some interesting questions, however, and well worth a listen.

This is an interesting interview, in great quality, and unusual is that David and Iggy

This was a great show, and such an awesome touring band. Bowie never has trouble filling in his tour roster, but this is the perfect balance of his old to their new.  Gail Ann Dorsey, Earl Slick and a slew of other great players.  Cactus shows that dirty Bowie that feels so much like Tin Machine. The Life on Mars is one of the best ive heard. Blue Jean I had never heard live. Halo Spaceboy!!! You forget that Bowie is in his late fifties!..I could go on, but its all worth a listen.

Another great show back to back nights. Fairly similar setlist but it comes of the stage a lot bigger than it did in Seattle. I think Seattle was my favorite of the two but they both have their own highlights. This was in a stadium that was cut down to be a smaller version of itself with some big curtains up. Made it more intimate than most shows at that venue. During this tour there was a fan in the audience who dressed up each night as a bunny and went to a bunch of Bowie stops on that tour (10 maybe?). He makes some comments to her on various nights of the tour which is pretty funny. She happens to be a Vancouver native (Lollipop Shoved!). After this show in Vancouver, she stood stage left as everyone filed out and someone from Bowie's camp tried to get her backstage. The local promoter (I wanna say it was Clear CHan) would not let him bring more people back that werent preapproved. After Bowies management failed to convince the promoter to change their mind, Bowie himself came out and started screaming at their reps. He said I am making you guys millions of dollars, you cant tell me what to do, this is my last tour with you guys etc... It was awesome!! Seeing someone so oldschool trying to still connect with fans is sweet. Bowie is one of my musical heroes, hope to see many more years of his music, live or otherwise.

A superb recording from a fine show. 'If we're going to film a DVD anywhere, this is the place to do it. I know it, you know it and they (the film crew) know it!'

That's how David Bowie explained the presence of cameras at the first of two shows at the Point Depot in Dublin last night.

This performance by David Bowie, in the beautiful French city of Marseille, made it difficult to believe that only a few days previously he had been suffering from laryngitis. But, in typical Bowie style, rather than take it easy he chose to include Life On Mars? in the set for the first time... one of the most vocally challenging songs of his repertoire!
