It is a copy of Bowie live at The Rainbow Theatre 19-8-72 and is the only known recording of "The Ziggy Stardust Shows" with the Lindsey Kemp mime troup, so it's historical significance to Bowie fans is enormous.
This is what Bassman has to say about this recording:
"COMMENTS: In August '72 Bowie staged a couple of special shows known as
"The Ziggy Stardust Shows", including the Lindsey Kemp mime troup
and a specially built stage. This is a release of the only known tape of one
of these shows. The sound quality is so-so, but it doesn't matter.
The tape ends in the beginning of MOONAGE DAYDREAM, and I'm sure that at
least ROCK'N'ROLL SUICIDE was played too? .................A great Australian release"!
The BBC stuff although on the artwork of my discs wasn't included, it is just the show.
As always with cdr recordings you can never vouch for the source material used.
Soundwise with a bit of tweaking with a grahic equaliser you can actually get this sounding
very good indeed. The good thing about the recording is it doesn't fluctuate so your ears adjust
to the sound very quickly.
The recording is a bit thin on the bass, however you can here Bowie's voice quite clearly in front of the mix,
and the band are balanced in the back ground.
Don't get me wrong this is not of the standard of Santa Monica or Hammersmith Odeon
but it is still very pleasant to listen to.
